Four houses damaged, Thousands offered funeral prayers for Slain Militant and Civilian in Pinglen Pulwama
Srinagar: Thousands participated in the joint funeral of a civilian and militant that were killed during a gun battle in Pinglena area of Pulwama district, 25 kilometers south of Srinagar. At least five security personnel including a major- rank officer was also killed in the same gun battle on Monday.
On Tuesday, Thousands of people including women and children marched towards the native village, Pinglena, of the slain duo to bid farewell. While shouting pro freedom slogans, the mourners carry their bodies to a local graveyard where multiple funerals were held.
The gun battle left trails of destruction behind as nearly four houses were completely razed to the ground. People near the gun battle site were seen collected donations for the house owners.
On Monday security forces killed three suspected militants belonging to Jaesh Mohammad Outfit in a gunfight that raged in Pinlegna village of Southern Pulwama district.
Police claimed that one of the slain Militant, Kamran, was the master mind of the Pulwama suicide attack that killed nearly 49 paramilitary forces.
Deputy inspector general of police, a Rashtriya Rifles Commander of the rank of brigadier and a lieutenant colonel were among top police and army officer injured in the encounter.
Following specific information about the presence of militants the Cordon and Search operation was launched in the wee hours on Monday. As the forces intensified the searches and zeroed in on the suspected spot, the militants opened fire on them triggering off a gunfight.
At least four army personnel including a major rank officer were killed in the initial burst of fire. Another army officer also received serious injuries later in the day.
The CASO and subsequently killing of the militants triggered clashes near the encounter site and its adjacent areas.
The joint team of police and paramilitary troops used force to quell the protests leaving several protestors injured.
Amid heavy clashes, police were seen appealing people through the public address system to stay indoors.
Owner of the one of the house, Mushtaq Ahmad, was also killed during the gunfight.
He is said to have received critical wounds during the exchange of gunfight and succumbed later.
