Students leader Thokchom Veewon charged with sedition as per Police, “No information about his whereabouts” says brother

Delhi: Manipur Students association Delhi adviser picked up without arrest warrant and the police say that he is charged with Sedition. A joint team of Delhi police and Manipur police picked up Manipuri students leader Thokchom Veewon from his residence in South Delhi yesterday evening and is charged with IPC 124 A. But no confirmation given regarding the charges says Veewon’s brother Venus Thokchom. “They have not given anything in written. No charge sheet is given and neither they are disclosing where he is being kept right now.” Says Venus.

Venus says he couldn’t find his brother at the police station. He says the police from Manipur taken him already. There is no flight to Manipur after five thirty so taking him to Manipur now is impossible and Veewon is kept captive somewhere in Delhi. Venus thinks that the arrest is because of Veewon’s facebook comment on the Manipur CM. Venus is in Janakpuri police station with a lawyer.

Thokchom Veewon, Manipur Students Association Delhi ex president currently is the adviser of the organization. One of his friends alleged that he was not arrested but the Delhi police abducted him. This friend also alleged that Manipur Cyber Crime unit is behind the arrest of Veewon and this arrest is the result of conspiracy because he spoke about self determination in a public place.

Thokchom Veewon is very vocal about the arrest of journalist Kishorechandra Wanghemcha who is charged under National Security Act for his words against BJP and is in jail. Thokchom Veewon was in the forefront of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Delhi. On February 12 Veewon had shared the news on facebook that his house in Manipur was raided by police and they threatened his parents.
