The killing of six local militants plunged the Southern part of Kashmir into mourning

Thousands of mourners on Thursday participated in the funeral of six local militants killed in two separate encounters. Both the encounters happened away from the residential areas in hideouts in Kashmir’s Shopian and Budgam Districts.
The killed militants belonged to twin districts of Southern Kashmir- Pulwama, and Shopian. The militants were buried in the ancestral graveyards of their native villages. The encounters happened last two days.
On Monday, Three militants were killed in a daylong gunfight between security forces and militants in Zinpanchal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. In another encounter on Tuesday, three militants were killed in a fierce gunfight between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopain district.
Following specific information about the presence of militants the Cordon and Search operation was launched in the respective villages. As the forces intensified the searches and zeroed in on the suspected spot, the militants opened fire on them triggering off a gunfight.
The CASO and subsequently killing of the militants triggered clashes near the encounter site and its adjacent areas. The joint team of police and paramilitary troops used force to quell the protests leaving several protestors injured.
Photo Journalists injured
Four photojournalists covering the protests were also were injured near the encounter site. Photojournalists included Waseem Andrabi, Junaid Gulzar, Mir Burhan, and Nisar ul Haq, received pellet injuries on face and neck. All the injured media men were later shifted to a nearby hospital for the treatment.
